Rajasthan in Winter: A Ten-Day Route
Rajasthan is commonly sold as a seven-day sprint across five cities. Ten days, routed properly, is a substantially better trip for barely more cost.
Days 1–3: Jaipur
Amber Fort at opening time, the Jantar Mantar with a guide who can actually explain the instruments, and an afternoon in the old city's bazaars. The City Palace deserves a full half-day rather than the ninety minutes most itineraries allow.
Days 4–5: Jodhpur
Mehrangarh is the finest fort in the state and the audio guide is genuinely good. Stay inside the blue city rather than in the newer districts — the walk up to the fort at dawn is the reason to be there.
Days 6–8: Jaisalmer
Break the drive at Osian. In Jaisalmer, sleep one night inside the living fort and one night at a desert camp near Sam. Camel safaris are best in the last two hours before sunset, not the middle of the day.
Days 9–10: Udaipur
The long transfer is worth it. Udaipur is the place to slow down — a lake cruise, the City Palace museum, and an evening at Bagore Ki Haveli.
When to go
November through February. Daytime highs sit near 25°C and desert nights drop close to freezing, so pack a proper jacket for the camp.
